12 October 2006 - Business Reception

The Rushmoor Strategic Partnership held a business breakfast reception on Thursday, 12th October at the Aldershot Garrison Officers’ Mess. Representatives from over 40 organisations attended the event, including the Aldershot News, ASDA foodstores, Aspire Defence Services, North Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Blackwater Valley and Hart Primary Care Trust.

The Rushmoor Strategic Partnership is working towards improving economic, social and environmental wellbeing for the area and is keen to ensure that local business have a chance to contribute towards that. The Partnership has a membership drawn from a range of different organisations across the Borough including Rushmoor Borough Council and North East Hampshire Police and is working on a number of key priorities. Councillor Peter Moyle, Chairman of the Rushmoor Strategic Partnership and Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, said: ”Business is seen as key to the future prosperity of the Borough and we are working to engage better with the private sector. The event has allowed us to discuss our future priorities and the role of business”.

The programme included a presentation from Andrew Lloyd, Chief Executive at Rushmoor Borough Council, which showcased some of the Partnership’s completed work and future plans for the Borough. Trevor Sidebottom, Managing Director, Farnborough International gave a fascinating presentation on the 2006 Airshow which was well received by delegates.

The ‘Local Business & Local People’ competition was launched at the reception. 'Local Business & Local People' is a competition organised by the Rushmoor Strategic Partnership (RSP) and sponsored by the Aldershot News Group. The competition is aimed at local businesses that have contributed to the community to improve quality of life in Rushmoor. Entries will be judged on the positive impact a business has had on local people. This could be anything from working with a local school, to sponsoring an individual project that has helped a local community to overcome a particular challenge. Judging takes place at the end of March 2007 and the successful businesses will be invited to receive their awards at a reception by the Mayor of Rushmoor.
